Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, "The Domes"

If you need an escape from the cold MKE weather, take a visit to the the Michell Park Horticultural Conservatory (Milwaukee Domes). Located ten minutes west of downtown, the Mitchell Park Domes are a set of three unique horticultural conservatories: Desert Dome, Floral Show Dome and Tropical Dome.

Fun fact: More than 250,000 people visit the domes each year!

As I walked into the Desert Dome, I was immediately hit with 75 degrees and what felt like a beautiful sunny day in the desert! What a contrast from the 35 degree weather outside... I had such a lovely time walking around and getting to photograph all of the incredible plants I saw.

As someone who loves plants, it was heartwarming to see so much beauty and greenery in one place. Living in the mid-west my whole life, I tend to get so tired of the brown and grey during the winter months!

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get any photos of the incredible Tropical Dome because of the moisture levels. My camera immediately fogged up and that much moisture is no good for professional cameras...  Total bummer!

If you are taking children to the domes, they will love the current display at the Floral Show Dome! Right now it's Railroad to Wonderland, a garden train show. The display highlights chapters from the books Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. You can see upcoming special exhibits at the Floral Show Dome here!

If you're considering checking out the domes, keep in mind if you are a Milwaukee resident you get a discounted rate! You can see pricing here!

*Extended Hours Thursdays During Garden Train Show: Thursdays Jan. 25–March 15:  9AM–9PM
